For Rosine Chandebois, evolution is a program which proceeds since the origin like the embryonic development which goes from the first cell to the adult organism.
« The genetic program of development has only existed in the collective imagination of biologists. (…) All these works lead towards the same certainty: the recipe of development is not written in the DNA! It is contained within the egg’ s cytoplasma which must have a particular molecular composition, furthermore a suitable organization. In other words, DNA does not command anything and is certainly not the architect. Because it produces and provides the material for this construction, it gives the organism its originality. » « The Tree of Life has been made from the first cells, the same way that the tree from the seed, exclusively through a game of internal factors. »
Well, I don’t know a lot of darwinists supporting that « the recipe of development is written in the DNA », but it’s sure that sometimes a single gene is affected and down goes the development. And I presented just above why I don’t think that darwinists could think of DNA as the architect of anything. Let’s consider it as what it is: a polymeric, polyionic information storing molecule.
The more interesting part of this quotation is the last phrase:
The Tree of Life has been made from the first cells, the same way that the tree from the seed, exclusively through a game of internal factors.
That’s exactly what I’m supporting! But it’s an extract from « To finish with Darwinism, … » [Rosine Chandebois “ Pour en finir avec le Darwinisme, une nouvelle logique du vivant ” Editions Espace 34, 1993]. I had to read twice the paragraph to understand what the difference between us could be. In fact, I’m considering the biosphere, the entire biosphere, not only living parts, but also the environment with which they interact. Thus, internal factors may be quite different notions and from my point of view there is no contradiction with the darwinian theory of evolution of species.
